BALDASSARE DORIA, PODESTA' DI VENTIMIGLIA

In esecuzione dell’atto di sottomissione della nostra città sottoscritto dall’Ambasceria Ventimigliese il 23 febbraio 1514, Baldassare DORIA veniva designato Capitano e Podestà in sostituzione di Giovanni DA PINO e si apprestava a governare Ventimiglia per conto del Banco di San Giorgio. Il compito non era facile perché permaneva uno stato di guerra con il Re di Francia e la Riviera era continuamente molestata dai corsari provenzali. L’assidua caccia al pirata Bernardino Baux, al servizio del Re di Francia, risulterà fatale ad un gruppo di marinai che, ammutinatisi, uccidono il loro capitano e quindi si rifugiano a Ventimiglia. Arrestati, vennero rinchiusi nelle “segrete” del Castello per ordine del DORIA. Le pessime condizioni di vita in tali prigioni indussero il Podestà a scrivere, all’ufficio del Banco di San Giorgio, una lettera con la quale suggeriva di risolvere la questione o giustiziandoli o trasferendoli in una galera meno dura.

BALDASSARE DORIA, PODESTAT DE VINTIMILLE

Après l’acte de soumission de notre ville, signé le 23 février 1514 par les Ambassadeurs de Vintimille, Baldassare DORIA était désigné à remplacer Giovanni DA PINO, en qualité de Capitaine et Podestat et se préparait à gouverner Vintimille pour le compte du Banco di San Giorgio. La tâche n’était pas facile, car, tandis que la ville persistait dans son état de guerre contre le roi de France, les corsaires provençaux continuaient à ravager la Riviera. La chasse à Bernardino Baux, pirate au service du roi de France, sera fatale à un groupe de marins qui, ameutés, chercherons abri à Vintimille, après avoir tué leur capitaine. Par ordre de Baldassare DORIA ils furent arrêtés et renfermés dans les oubliettes du Château. Les mauvaises conditions de vie dans cette prison obligèrent le Podestat à écrire au Banco di San Giorgio une lettre, par laquelle il conseillait de régler la question en les condamnant à mort ou en les transférant dans une prison moins dure.

BALDASSARE DORIA, BÜRGERMEISTER VON VENTIMIGLIA

Nach Vollstreckung des Unterwerfungsaktes von der ventimigliesischen Botschaft am 23 Februar 1514 wurde Baldassare DORIÀ als Kapitän und Bürgermeister an der Stelle von Giovanni DA PINO ernannt und er machte sich bereit Ventimiglia im Auftrage der Banco di San Giorgio zu verwalten. Die Aufgabe war nicht leicht, weil ein Kriegszustand mit dem französischen König fortdauerte und die Riviera von provenzalischen Korsaren ständig belästigt wurde. Die andauernde Jagd auf den Seeräuber Bernardino Baux, der im Auftrage des Konigs von Frankreich handelte, wurde einer Matrosengruppe verhäkngnisvoll. Nachdem dieselbe sich aufgelehnt hatten, töteten sie ihren Kapitän und flohen nach Ventimiglia. Nachdem sie verhaftet wurden, wurden sie in die Geheimzellen des Schlossgefängnisses, auf Befehl von Doria geworfen. Die unerträglichen Lebenszustände in diesem Gefängnis zwang den Bürgermeister der Verwaltung der Banco di San Giorgio einen Brief zu schreiben, durch welchen er befahl, die Sach so zu erledigen: entweder die Gefangener hinzurichten oder sie in ein menschlicheres Gefängnis zu versetzen.

BALDASSARE DORIA, MAYOR OF VENTIMIGLIA

In carrying out the deed of submission of our city, undersigned by the Embassy of Ventimiglia on 23rd february 1514, Baldassare DORIA was designated Captain and Mayor, substituting Giovanni DA PINO and he prepared to govern Ventimiglia on behalf of the Banco di San Giorgio. The task was not so easy because there was a permanent state of war with the King of France and the Riviera was continuously molested by the Provencal pirates. The assiduous hunt for the pirate Bernardino Baux, at the service of the King of France will result fatal for a group of sailors who, in a mutiny, killed their Captain and then sought refuge in Ventimiglia. Arrested, they were imprisoned in the dungeons of the castle by orders of DORIA. The extremely bad conditions of life in these prisons induced the Mayor to write a letter to the office of the Banco di San Giorgio, in which he suggested a way to solve the problem, either by executing the prisoners or transfering them to a prison with better living conditions.
